The Paaso Settlement

In the Sortavalsky district of Karelia, not far from the village of Helyulya, there is an attraction that few people know about. This is the high rock of Paasonvuori near Lake Karmalanyarvi, where the Paaso settlement is located. It was discovered in the 19th century by the Finnish archaeologist Otto Appelgren as a settlement of ancient Korels who lived here around the 12th-13th centuries.
